1:1 Masterclass: Seasonal arranging with flowers from your garden
This class aims to teach you firstly and foremostly, how to use what you have already growing in your garden for vase arrangements in the house throughout the seasons and secondly how to make your beds more productive for cut flowers through the seasons either working with beds you already have or creating an entirely new cut flower bed.
Juliet works out of her studio based at Babylon Plants in Oxfordshire . Over the last 12 years we have changed and improved many of the already existing stock beds at the nursery and added several new beds that are entirely based round what she needs for her floristry and wedding design work. These change according too what is in demand and are in constant flux.
Juliet will tailor this 1:1 masterclass to share best her knowledge with you and inspire you to use plants, trees and foliage you might not have thought about using before. The masterclass will be entirely catered to you and your space and is a full day running from 10-5pm.
THE DAY AT A GLANCE
You will start with a walk around your garden, looking at the plants you currently have at your disposal, what will work and how to ‘vase test’ flowers and foliage that you may not have used before. Juliet will advise on how best to cut the plant to encourage growth, whilst improving their overall look and how to condition your cuttings to maximise vase life once indoors. She will show you how to choose and cut flowers and foliage that complement each other in an arrangement. A mixture of flowers and foliage or even just foliage, including stems you may not have thought of before. She will also bring a bucket of seasonal flowers and foliage grown here at Babylon for you to work with and be inspired by so if you don’t have an abundance of blooms in your own garden do not worry!
Once you have chosen your stems, Juliet will work with you and the vessels you would like to be able to arrange into tall or small anything you like, mugs, glasses, fan vases, urns, jugs, troughs…. She will bring everything you need string, snips, chicken wire flower frogs and other floristry arranging tools for you to practice with to create the perfect sustainable arrangement. We can also discuss talk through, how to use flowers to their best in table scaping for dinners and will give you a list of where to buy all the tools we use and a list of suppliers for candles and vases that we recommend.
We can discuss and plan a cut flower bed that will fit in your garden whatever the size available. We will give you a list of our top favourite perennial plants for cutting and also which annuals we grow here at Babylon too use alongside. If you need more plants to create the cut garden, you can place an order for delivery from our wholesale nursery at a discounted price.
